Thomas Richards (1800-1877): A Bibliography in Progress, Reloaded

Almost two years ago, I published an extended bibliography of known texts by Thomas Richards, Dolgellau, on this blog as an updated and corrected version of the list published in my 2017 anthology, Rob the Red-Hand. For an obscure Welsh writer of the late Romantic period, Richards extensively published fiction and non-fiction across many British journals during the 1820s. Following his emigration to Tasmania in 1832, he continued his writerly efforts by his work for the Hobart Town Magazine and editorship of the Colonial Times newspaper. Owing to his reluctance of signing his name to his publications, however, he remains an overlooked writer even among scholars of Welsh writing in English and it is quite difficult to trace his full output. It is largely thanks to his personal style and quirks of writing that every now and then, I stumble across a previously unidentified item. Since the first online publication of the bibliography in 2023, I have added ten new titles to the ever-growing list. You can discover the full bibliography by clicking on the tile below.

Next week, I will be giving a paper about the autobiographical elements in the writings of Thomas Richards at this year’s annual conference of the Association for Welsh Writing in English. If you don’t happen to be present on site, you can still sign up for virtual attendance via Zoom. The programme is promissing a corker of a conference!
