Interpreting Gothic Strangeness and Tragedy at the Coast in Public Humanities Storytelling

As part of this year’s Haunted Shores virtual conference, I have joined my University College Cork colleagues Prof Claire Connolly and Dr James Smith in presenting some of our research around maritime heritage, gothic literature and how these stories appeal to historical and modern audiences.

As we are still under travel restrictions owing to the worldwide pandemic, the organisers set up the conference as a combination of synchronous and asynchronous presentations. So ahead of our live panel on Methods and Practice on 26 March 2021, here is our recorded talk in which we explore the Gothic nature of maritime suicides, U-boats and lighthouses.
