The other week I was invited by Margaret Boland Murphy of the Ireland-based Bofin Consultancy to contribute to the first of several workshops helping businesses in and associated with the visitor industry to attract new customers. As part of activities undertaken by the Ports, Past and Present project, Bofin are setting up a new Tourism Network across the Irish Sea, linking up businesses in and around the 5 ferry port communities, showcasing new strategies and giving advice on how to engage in cross-border initiatives to show the rich and varied nature of the heritage on the ground as one of many attractive draws for prospective visitors. For that reason, Mags asked me to participate in the first workshop under the title ‘Heritage through the Lens’, sharing our experience of producing the Ports, Past and Present documentary film series last year, what thought processes had gone into its making and how these films can form a substantial tool in attracting visitors to locations which are notoriously overlooked. So without further ado, enjoy this free workshop recording.
